The hawkwatch, on the James River, sponsored by Coastal VA Wildlife Observatory, is off to a better than average start, with 500+ birds through March. The majority, as usual, are Turkey Vultures, but this week saw the expected shift toward American Kestrels and other species. Ten species have been recorded in 27 days so far, about the halfway point of the season. Last year's total was 14 species and 938 birds. If there are other spring sites out there, please let me know your progress. Brian Taber CVWO You are subscribed to VA-BIRD.
