The hawkwatch, on the James River, in James City County, after more than a week of poor flying weather, had a decent day today, March 24. The total of 129, though modest by fall hawkwatch standards is very good for spring sites. As usual, it was mostly Turkey Vultures, but Black Vultures, Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Red-taileds and American Kestrels were on the move as well. The end of March is generally a very good period for this hawkwatch. Hundreds of swallows and thousands of waterfowl were also on the move, headed north, for much of the day.
