After a February total of 73 over 9 chilly days, our total today, March 2nd
was 33, on a warm bubble of air that has already disappeared by tonight. The
mid-morning warm-up was very pleasant and encouraged 27 Turkey Vultures, 3
Sharp-shinned Hawks, a Cooper's Hawk, a Bald Eagle and an Osprey to cross in
about 90 minutes.
Tom Armour, Bill Williams and I saw more than 100 Tree Swallows and there
were also 2 butterflies flying leisurely upriver, probably Commas or Question
Marks. Yesterday, there were hundreds of ducks moving and 40+ Pintails sitting
right in front of us, but today there were few waterfowl around.
