This morning I did not find the Clay-colored Sparrow present since
Friday in my Lynchburg back yard. The clouds could have depressed its
singing, and I did not have too long before work to watch for it feeding
with the other sparrows on the ground, so I will continue to check for
it. Monday evening early I saw the second singing individual in town,
at Robert Ferrell's house, and it was the spitting image of the other.
Rexanne Bruno sent me one digital image of the one from my yard that I
can send to anyone interested if you will contact me off line. I will
use it for documenting the occurrence, as well as nondigital pictures I
have taken the last few days. According to the most recent data, there
are three records for Clay-colored Sparrow in the piedmont, all from the
fall:
1, Kerr Res. CBC, 18 Dec 1994
1(1), Manassas, 22 Dec 2001-9 Feb 2002
1, Sky Meadows SP (Fauquier), 8 Nov 2003.
A singing White-eyed Vireo and Red-eyed Vireo were two migrants present
this morning in my yard, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks continue.
