I finally got a decent look at the elusive Clay-colored around 2 p.m.,
feeding on gourmet blend of seeds put out by guardian angels, right in front of
the
holly tree by the Julie Metz Memorial Bench. Thanks so much! When I first saw
the bird, I wasn't even thinking Clay-colored. I had Harris's on my mind, but
when I saw the beautiful gray nape, buffy sides, and white median crown
stripe, I had to switch gears. Also feeding on the seeds were Am. Tree, Field,
Fox,
Song, White-throated, and Juncos.
Further down the road at Neabsco Creek, I saw two Am. Pipits land on the ice
next to some Black Ducks, out in the middle of the creek. I had to do a double
take on that one! Two Lesser Black-backed Gulls were loafing on the
ice..adult and 3rd year. Two N. Harriers flew over Neabsco Rd. as I was passing
Leesylvania SP. A Bald Eagle was fixing up the nest on the north side of
Neabsco
Creek. Glad they're back.
