Location disclaimer: this is a Maryland posting rather than for
Virginia, but I seem to remember seeing some recent postings inquiring
about chimney swift activity in the area, so thought that this might
interest others.
Last night my husband and I were at the Great Frederick Fair in
Frederick Maryland. At dusk we were strolling the midway, near the
ferris wheel, when I noticed a swirl of swifts circling over a
two-chimneyed house just off the fairgrounds behind the ferris wheel. I
stopped to watch for several minutes and was rewarded by the sight of
individual swifts dropping down to and eventually entering one or the
other of the chimneys until the last bird (out of dozens) disappeared
down the chute at approximately 7:30 p.m. We didn't take in the
grandstand show at the fair but found this avian activity to be awesome!
