This past Sunday I was out in my backyard enjoying the weather and,
believe it or not, looking for birds. I looked up into the bright
blue sky and saw a raptor circling high overhead. Raising my binocular
to my eyes I see that it is an Osprey. In fact there were two Ospreys,
one much higher and not visible with the naked eye. The really cool
part was that there was decent sized (~100) group of Chimney Swifts
sharing the thermal with the 2 Osprey. I have never observed Swifts
using thermals before and thought this was rather interesting.
As an aside the 2 circling Osprey made this a 3 Osprey day for my
small suburban yard! Earlier in the day 2 crows were chasing an Osprey
fairly low down the street and over my house. Never thought that I
would see 3 Ospreys in one day from my yard!
