VA Birders,
At Fort C.F. Smith Park in Arlington Co. this morning, Monday, October
25, we saw at least 20 Chimney Swifts flying over and circling around. Then
when I arrived home, about noon, I saw another swift flying over my house. I
don't think I had seen any swifts for about 10 days prior to today. After
seeing
them, I checked my copy of the old (and out-of-print) "Bluebook," the
"Annotated Checklist of Virginia Birds," which was published in 1987.
According to
the Bluebook, Chimney Swifts are supposed to leave by Oct. 15, so for the
record, these birds are 10 days late.
Other sightings of note at Fort Smith on this gloomy morning were a
Blue-headed Vireo and both kinglets.
