VA Birders,
In case you have missed some of the swifts hot-spots this fall, like me, I am
happy to report that you can see the swifts at the Alexandria waterfront. Last
night following a sailing trip with the Alexandria Seacoast Foundation, I noted
at least 100 swifts entering the Torpedo Factory chimney (105 N. Union Street)
between 7:00 - 7:15 p.m. I know the numbers are not super, but it was a fun
little show anyway.
Grab some dinner at the Chart House and watch the bird show.
The usual bird species were out on the Hydrilla mat and I noted a single
Caspian Tern feeding.
Also of interest, the Alexandria Seacost Foundation is working to help educate
children about the Chesapeake Watershed through water quality monitoring and
planting native submurged aquatic vegetation. They are just a few feet up the
river from the Chart House restaurant. They will be planting Celery Grass to
help with remediation of the Wilson bridge project.
