I must confess that, having been away from active birding and out of touch with
the birding literature (American Birds, etc.) for several years, I am somewhat
amazed at all the recent reports of Cave Swallows on migration.
Can someone tell me (or speculate) what these birds are doing here in Virginia?
I remember seeking these birds out on the Edwards Plateau in Texas and that an
appearance on the Texas Coast was considered noteworthy. More recently I
recall tracking down a colony of Cave Swallows, proportedly of the Caribbean
race, near Coral Gables, Florida. But I do not recall ever hearing reports of
multiple individuals along the East Coast, now as far north as CT?
