[va-bird] Caspian Tern at Cape Charles

Yesterday (Memorial Day), there was a Caspian Tern at Cape Charles Beach in
the early afternoon, associating with Royal Terns. Though not uncommon in the
interior as far east as Portsmouth and the western Bay river mouths in spring,
I've been surprised over the past five springs at how uncommon Caspians are
here in the spring on the lower Shore. This is the only one I've seen here
this spring, and a week spent in coastal North Carolina turned up none (but all
other expected tern species, 10 in all); most birding outings to the Outer
Banks in mid- to late May miss this species in recent years. (Surely, the
easterly winds don't appear to help bring interior/westerly migrants to the
coast.)
Looked around a bit today for reports of several interesting possible birds
but no luck -- overcast, cold, and mostly calm, with a northwest wind, a good
direction for concentrating kites around the southern tip, but a bit too cold
today for kites to fly. Will be looking up tomorrow again,
