On Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, just four weeks from tomorrow,
the Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory (CVWO) will host its 3rd
annual IMBD spring bird count in Cape Charles and birders are needed to
help us cover the territory. The count covers the same 15 mile diameter
circle as the Cape Charles CBC, divided into eight or nine sections, so
there is no such thing as too many birders for this event. To make it
easier, this year we are allowing you to cover your territory on either
Saturday or Sunday. In '04 and '05 we tallied over 120 species without
covering the barrier islands and we really want to exceed those totals
this year.

Territory preferences will be dealt with on a first come, first served
basis. Inexperienced birders are welcome and every attempt will be made
to team them with those that have more experience. If we get enough
participation we will put together a team to bird the barrier islands by
boat, at an expected fee of no more than $20 per person to cover the
cost of the boat. So talk to your birding buddies, put together a team,
and plan to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Virginia's
beautiful Eastern Shore.
