please do NOT use 74077.3176@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx for e-mail. That's a
primitive site; can't open most messages anymore.

PLEASE let me know if you can participate & who is going to be with you.

November 27, 2003, Thanksgiving

You are invited to participate at Cape Charles on Tuesday, December 30.

HEADQUARTERS: Peacock Motor Inn, Cape Charles, VA 23310 (757-331-2121) 5
miles s. of Cheriton on the e. side of Route 13 near the southernmost tip
of the Delmarva Peninsula. I will arrive at the Peacock at c. 8 P.M., Dec.
29, and will be ensconced in splendor in Room 4 where party assignments,
maps, Jim Beam and their/its ilk will be dispensed on count eve.

EATING & COMPILATION: Breakfast is at 6 A.M. and dinner at 5:30 P.M. at
the Cape Center/Sting-Ray's just south of the Peacock on Route 13 on the
east side. Bring your own lunch. Thanks to Dave Summers of Kiptopeke
State Park the compilation will be at Kiptopeke State Park Headquarters (n.
side rte. 704) in the conference room at 7:00 P.M. SHARP.

AMPHIBIOUS FORCES: The boat fee is still $20 per head but, as it has been
for years, is largely subsidized by myself. Boat reservations are on a
first come/first call basis but also based somewhat on seniority. Dress
warmly and dryly. Rubber knee (or higher) boots are required and rain
suits are desirable if it is windy. We have never been weathered out. The
boat leaves from the Intracoastal Waterway (Ramp Lane off the south end of
Hallett Circle), locally known as the Federal Cut, below Eastern Shore of
Virginia N.W.R. The boat party spends most of the day walking the barrier
islands and sees large numbers of waterfowl, shorebirds, and marsh species
plus raptors.

IMPORTANT: Please check on your party assignments at the motel on count
eve even if you get there late or else phone me at the Peacock the night
before. Do NOT wait until breakfast. Be extra considerate of landowners:
ALWAYS knock and ask permission. All count participants must, alas, pay
the $5 participation fee to subsidize processing & posting of the Christmas
counts. Everyone on my mailing list will receive an annotated copy of the
Cape Charles results. I will be participating in the asterisked (*) counts
and, after Christmas, will have several gung ho passengers. We TRY to take
no prisoners.
