I am new to the world of birding and am hoping you experts out there can help
me identify a bird call I've been hearing near my home. If it helps, I live
about a mile from Huntley Meadows in Alexandria, VA.
The call is two staccato syllables followed by a trill. The first note is
rather high pitched and sounds kind of like the vowel E. The second note is a
few tones lower and sounds kind of like "ooh", (a long U sound). The trill is
at least as high pitched as the first note, sometimes higher. The trill lasts
longer than the first two notes. So, altogether it's "E-ooh-trill." I did
catch a brief glimpse of the bird and could only see enough to notice that it
had a dark head, back and tail. It was too backlit to see more.
My description may not be of much help, but this novice appreciates any help
you can throw my way. Thanks!
