Not much to report lately from my Common Nighthawk watchsite in
Fairfax City, VA. Tuesday (9-14) there was rain all around the area and it
rained hard for about 20 minutes(luckily I have a place I can still watch
facing north and stay dry). I only saw two nighthawks that evening, but
Chimney Swifts were still common.
On 9-15 it had rained all day and it had pretty much sopped when I
started the watch. Didn't see any nighthawks and swifts were almost absent.
I did see 2 nighthawks, however, at the nocturnal feeding area at Tyson's
Corner.
Last evening (9-16) I saw 2 nighthawks at the watchsite and one at
Tyson's Corner. It had been sunny most of the day but by the time I started
it was overcast with a light drizzle.
Tonight doesn't look good with heavy rain predicted, but the
forecast now is for clearing Saturday.
