Greeting to all:
On Saturday 21, 2004, Mike Boatwright, Adam D'Onofrio and myself made the trip
to the Virginia Beach area for some heavy birding. We stopped at Stumpy Lake,
Rudee Inlet, Lynnheaven Inlet, Fort Story and then the CBBT.
The most impressive sight was the large numbers of scoter up close to the
island with all three species being seen. There must have been 40 - 50
thousand scoters. A few Long-tailed Ducks were seen, a single female Harlequin
and at least 6 Common Eiders.
Lesser Black-back gull was seen at both Ft Story and on the CBBT. A single
Red-necked Grebe as also seen at Ft Story along with Red-throated Loons seen at
Ft Story and on the CBBT.
We had a great day with just a short rain shower to get us a little wet and the
wind blew us out of our socks but it kept the boats away and so it was worth it.
