Report for CBBT January 29, 2005

A small group from Monticello Bird Club made early departure from
Charlottesville for a full day of birding on the CBBT. It was mostly sunny
throughout the morning and early afternoon and temps just barely above

Hightlights included:

Harlequin Duck 4 on Isl.#4 (1 male and 3 females)

Common Goldeneye 1 female

Greater Scaup

Lesser Scaup

Red-throated Loon 1

Red-breasted Merganser

Long-tailed Duck

Bufflehead

Ring-necked Duck

Black, Surf and White-winged Scoter

Great Cormorant including what appeared to be bonded pair

Peregrine Falcon Kiptopeake SP

Interesting sighting was a Northern Mockingbird without a tail.

We ran into a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain in Richmond on
return trip. Thankfully we made it back safely although it took a bit
longer due to poor driving conditions that worsened heading west.
