Burkes Garden, VA. Tazewell County.
9:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.
Today , Mark Mullins, son Jeremiah, mother Frances along with
Grady and Ann McRae birded the beautiful Burkes Garden. Lots
of birds active doing what birds do at this time of year , feeding
young or teaching the juveniles how to survive. Nothing too unusal
but a few high lights;
Red-headed Woodpeckers at 2 different locations , for a total of 5
birds.
Bobolinks-10 to 12 males total in at least 4 seperate areas, didn't
see any females but they must have all been busy with parental
duties.
Least Flycatchers at 3 locations. Willow Flycatcher, E. Phoebes,
E. Wood Pewees, Great-creasted Flycatcher and E. Kingbirds,
Lots of Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows (with juveniles )
.
No scarcity of Red-winged Blackbirds, Meadowlarks, C. Grackles
and E. Starlings.
We had a total of 48 species.
