VA Birders,
Today, Saturday, six members of the Buchanan County Bird Club birded Burkes
Garden, the beautiful mountain top crater-like valley in Tazewell County.
Present were Roger & Lynda Mayhorn, Johnnie & Betty Ratliff along with two
new members, Janice Martin and Ruth Smith.
Perhaps the cool temperatures in Burkes Garden was the reason for so many
birds being out on a July day. 45 species were observed with a total of 521
birds.
The birds of note for the day were 2 brilliantly plumaged, Red-headed
Woodpeckers, a Willow Flycatcher, 3 Common Ravens, 8 Eastern Kingbirds, 2
Yellow Warblers, 2 Common Yellowthroats, a Pileated Woodpecker, and a
close-up view of a magnificent Red-tailed Hawk.
For those interested the complete alphabetized list follows.
