I braved the wind this afternoon to check on the loons at Burke Lake
and am very glad I did. I counted between 20 and 30 from the marina
area - they were busy diving so I may have missed some. The best part,
though, was that a group of 10 was only about 50 feet off the end of
the floating dock and I got the best views I've ever had of common
loons. I thought I was going to get sea-sick, but it was worth it!
Hundreds of double-crested cormorants as well as lots of gulls -
although I didn't see the Bonaparts reported yesterday. The only new
thing I hadn't seen reported was a group of 8-10 ruddy ducks.
