My wife had been telling me about a orange and black bird she had seen in the
yard while I was at work. I thought it might have been some kind of warbler
until I saw him myself this afternoon. I is a male Bullock's Oriole. He was
eating hulled sunflower seeds from one or our tube feeders and hanging around
in the near-by bushes. I got a very good look at him with the binocs: bright
orange/yellow on bottom, black chin, black stripe across the eye, black on top
and a white patch on the wings. This is the first time I've ever seen a
Bullock's Oriole, and, according to Sibley's, not very common on the east
coast. Such a beautiful bird, I hope he sticks around!
