[va-bird] Buckland Kites" nest found

Sat. morning July 14 ---3 MIKIs were seen in the air over Buckland.
Subsequent investigation resulted in the finding of the active
nest. Observers wishing to see these birds should turn right off of
busy Eastbound Route 29 on Buckland Mill Road, just west of Broad
Run, which goes straight south then turns sharply left [east].

Park in the vicinity of this turn and the Kites can been seen
overhead and over the adjacent field which is private property.

Three MIKIs were seen and photographed at Buckland on August 12,
2006. At one point that day a roost tree was found
with 3 kites perched in it, two adults and a HY [juvenile] bird,
previously miss ID 'd as a sub adult. close up photos were taken of
the Juvenile indicating a successful fledgling. Finding the nest
had to wait until 2007.

The Annandale kites have not been reported for a week. If their
effort to nest this year fails again as it did last year, the
northernmost successful Kite nesting this year will be the Buckland
birds. as it was in 2006.
