Virginia Birders:
I saw this evening (Tuesday the 6th) my first Broadwing Hawk of the year,
heading north up the Blue Ridge past the monastery. I wasn't able to watch all
day, so there may have been more, since I always see a good number move past in
spring and fall.
The ponds were busy today with both Tree Swallows and Rough-winged Swallows, as
well as a pair of Green-winged Teal, 3 Blue-winged Teal, a pair of Wood Ducks
and 2 Great Blue Herons. The woods and hedgerows were also teeming with
birdlife since it got really warm for the first time in days. Most remarkable
were 6 Brown Creepers, some of which were actually singing!
