Va-Birders,
As often as I've seen and heard Northern Parulas, I've never had the
privilege of watching an adult feed young. This species must be the
James Brown of the avian world--the hardest working parent in the
forest. The insects it was catching almost non-stop were so small
that I really couldn't see them, but the mom kept stuffing 'em in the
little one's mouth. This enjoyable sighting was along Haul Road at
Dyke Marsh this morning.
Other highlights were a persistently vocalizing Least Bittern and a
Spotted Sandpiper which flew across an inlet in the marsh.
