I went to Bombay Hook on Saturday and saw the following birds as highlights.
Actually, I went to five locations which were Bombay, Ted Harvey, Little Creek,
Woodland Beach and Port Mahon. I couldn't find anything at Woodland Beach since
it was either high tide or I couldn't find the place where all the shorebirds
concentrate at. Here are the birds!
Curlew Sandpiper-Only saw 1 at Little Creek at the end, but the looks of the
bird were really good
American Golden Plover-In a plowed field just past Bombay Hook on the left
side. It was in with lots of Black-Bellied Plovers. I couldn't relocate it
later in the day.
3 White-Rumped Sandpipers in Port Mahon along with a couple of Red Knots amongs
thousands of semipalmated Sandpipers and Ruddy Turnstones. Also a few Westerns
here. I identified the White-Rumped Sandpipers since I accidently videotaped
them, so there could've been more.
2 Bobwhites near the entrance of Little Creek came out in the open so that was
a good sight. Also Peregrine Falcons were at Little Creek.
There was a Saltmarsh-Sharptailed Sparrow along the Boardwalk trail also which
was a good bird I thought
There was a King and Clapper Rail calling at Raymond Pool. Didn't see the Black
Tern here. I did see a few Stilt Sandpipers in this place.
So overall, I got 23 species of shorebirds here. My target birds for this trip
were Ruff, Curlew Sandpiper, Upland Sandpiper at Dover AFB, American Golden
Plover and Red-Necked Phalarope and Wilson's Phalarope. I got 2 out of 6 so the
trip was alright. Also missed the Olive-sided Flycatcher that was at Little
Creek the other day. Overall, 102 species.
