After an eventful trip to Occoquan, we stopped at our favorite BOBOLINK spot in
Warren County (just north of the low-water bridge at Morgan's Ford). We found
at least 4 displaying males (I assume the females aren't back yet - give them a
week or so).
Best bird at Occoquan was a KING RAIL skulking across the road right in front
of us (but while slowly slinking with his head low, he held his tail high as if
displaying to some female) - pretty neat.
Later, at Blandy we found a few more SOLITARY Sandpipers than we'd seen earlier
this week (4-6 or so) as well as 4 or more SPOTTED Sandpipers, and a few Lesser
Yellowlegs. In addition, we heard at least one SORA in the cattails. Also, the
Red-tailed Hawk at Blandy is now feeding young in the nest.
