Va-birders ;
The strong winds and sub zero temperatures kept both the birds and
birders low in numbers this morning but most people eventually got onto some
good
sparrows in the meadows around the visitors center. No major rarities but
did record Red-shouldered Hawk , Red-tailed Hawk , Eastern Bluebird , Raven ,
Downy W/P , Red-bellied W/P , Pileated W/P , Brown Creeper , Cedar Waxwing
,Golden-crowned Kinglet , Am Tree , Field ,Song ,White-throated Sparrows and
Dark-eyed Junco amongst more usual winter residents. The Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship is under " new management " and you can read of
their future plans on their website _www.blueridgecenter.org_
(http://www.blueridgecenter.org) .
This is also my last posting to Va-bird as I am migrating permanently to
Colorado next week. So to all my friends in the Virginia birding community at
Banshee Reeks NP , Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy , NVBC , VSO , Eastern Rivers
Rappahannock NWR , MOS etc farewell and come and see me in Colorado Springs
on any visits west you might make.
