Today I walked almost every trail that exists on the property run by
the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, except the
Farmstead Loop. With the diversity of habitat and birdlife it remains
one of my favorite places to bird, regardless of the fact that it's
only a 10-15 minute drive from home.
14 warbler species were noted, with several species being in much
greater abundance today as compared to 3 days ago. Cerulean, Hooded,
Kentucky and Wormeating were thick throughout. Black-throated Blues
also made their presence felt.
Highlight of the walk (sorry, Sue) was a drumming Ruffed Grouse on
the NW section of the Legacy Loop- the first time I've heard it there
despite several other reports of their existence.
