VA Birders:
I visited Isaac Crossman Park in Falls Church this afternoon. This is a
small wooded park along Four Mile Run just upstream from the Arlington County
line. The trails are on the south side of Four Mile Run. The north side has a
lot of understory and is mostly inaccessible to people, dogs, deer, etc. So it
is pretty good bird habitat. The park entrance is on Van Buren Street. There
is a limited amount of nonpermit parking (2 hour) on the street. Amazingly it
is only a mile and a half from my house yet I had never been there until
today, thanks to a recommendation from Andy Anderson who told me about a
Blackburnian Warbler he saw there last week.
The only warblers I saw this afternoon other than Yellow Rumps was a Common
Yellowthroat. But I did have my first Blue Headed Vireo of the year bathing in
Four Mile Run. In addition there seemed to be a pair of Catbirds every
hundred feet or so for the length of the park.
This morning at Ft. C.F. Smith in Arlington I saw my first Indigo Bunting of
the year as well as my first R.T. Hummingbird.
