Hello all,
This was a delightful day for a morning of bird watching at Occoquan NWR.
Highlights for us included spotting a male BLUE GROSBEAK in a grove of trees at
the far SE corner of the refuge (from here you can look across the bay and see
the visitors center at Mason Neck); a BLACK-NECKED STILT that flew in from the
bay side and landed in the marshy area where the newer culvert is along
Deephole Road; several SPOTTED SANDPIPERS; 20 plus CASPIAN TERNS on a sandbar
in the bay just off Deephole Road; and our first YELLOW WARBLER of the season.
When we arrived around 8:15, we could hear a NORTHERN BOBWHITE from the parking
lot.
