A Black-throated Gray Warbler was found by Doug Poffenbarger yesterday
around 3pm at the Blandy Experimental Farm (State Arboretum of Virginia).
Doug does not have e-mail, so word of the possible Black-throated Gray
Warbler was sent out late last evening. It was observed again today and
documented with photos.
Directions:
The entrance to the State Arboretum of Virginia at Blandy Experimental
Farm is on Rt. 50 in Clarke County, nine miles east of Winchester and
four miles west of the Shenandoah River.
Drive into the farm and follow the directions to the parking area just
past the information pavilion. Park and then walk up the road to the
Peetwood Pavilion for Environmental Education. Walk behind the pavilion
and continue to the grove of trees about 50 feet or so beyond. The
Black-throated Gray Warbler was seen on both days at this location.
There will probably be other birders there tomorrow morning (Monday) in
case you want to meet up and pursue this visitor from the West.
