I had a little time this afternoon (between 3 and 5) to watch for hawks from
the abbey yard, and saw a few raptors moving by: a couple of OSPREY, a
SHARP-SHINNED, a COOPER'S, 2 BROAD-WINGED, 3 RED-TAILED, and a single KESTREL.
I also saw my first BARN SWALLOW and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER of the year, as
well as 4 PALM WARBLERS, two pairs of PURPLE FINCHES (at the feeders). The
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER which showed up a few days ago was around today as well
as 7 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, a HERMIT THRUSH and a couple of RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS.
