Hi All,
The U.S. Government could have saved 1 billion dollars in research
and development for the stealth bombers and fighters if it would have studied
the Black Rail. I was there this morning with about 20 other folks moving
from one side of the boardwalk to another chasing the crisp, clear "ke-ke-do"
sound. The Rail was like that guy in the cellular phone commercial saying:
"Can you here me now?....Good.". Apart from a couple of lucky folks this
morning getting a brief glimpse we were all shut out. The Rail goes from one
section of tall grass....under the boardwalk... to another section of tall
grass and
finally over to some impressive cattail stands. So I returned this evening at
6pm
and went thru pretty much the same drill. We were all frustrated and ready to
jump
on any movement or sound. Suddenly someone said "here it comes". (it may have
been me..) There was movement in the grass in the vicinity of the Rail....
"Look!,
it's, it's a.......big Turtle". Oh well, it woke everyone up. Then at 7:45pm
the
Black Rail finally came out and sat on an old stand of marsh grass for about
90 seconds. This seemed like an eternity to the 7 of us who witnessed the event.
So after 5 hours and 15 mins of accumulated watching and waiting I was one of
the
fortunate few that was rewarded. I hope you are too.
For those of you live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia the directions
to
Huntley Meadows (Fairfax county, VA) are:
Dulles toll road to the DC Beltway I-495. Go south towards Springfield.
Get off at the Rt 1 SOUTH exit (last exit before crossing the Wilson bridge
into MD).
3.5 miles to Lockheed Blvd. Make a right and about 3/4 on the left is
Huntley Meadows.
