Hi All
Thanks to all the great postings of Ned Brinkley I was able to find the male
Painted Bunting yesterday and most of the great birds in his march 25 posting.
this was our third try for the bunting, so I guess the third time is the charm.
My Wife was most happy as this was a life bird for Her.
We also made a Young Birder from Ohio happy by showing him the birds. He had
been Visiting friends in Williamsburg and come over looking for the Hummingbird
My last two trips I had spent to much time on the CBBT islands and was to late
getting to Cape Charles. It was hard but I made it all the was
across CBB. The northern Gannets were having a feeding frenzy all the way
across the bay, great show. We did make one quick stop at the pond on ramp road
only saw two Hooded Mergansers. At Cape Charles It only took us about ten
minutes to find Bunting and the female Rufous Hummingbird. after checking
out the beach and harbor where we had great look At Brant and Purple
Sandpipers, we decided we had enough time to go on to Chincoteague. We
had good #s Green-winged Teal N. Pintail, N. Shoveler Snow Geese, Oyster
Catcher, Greater Yellow leg. The Laughing gulls have come in big time. We had 2
Snowy egrets, one Glossy Ibis and one lone Tundra Swan and a few Tree swallows.
On the return trip we found 17 Wilde Turkeys in one field and one in another
field on rt. 13 close to Cheriton. In all we had 64 species for the day
We didn't have the Tide right to stop at Willis Wharf but we had
great #s of Marble Godwits and Willits there the week before.
