Good Monday morning, Birders..
For the past few weeks we have been birding the Diascund Reservoir, located
in Lanexa, VA in New Kent County. The beautifully clear water makes for
great photos...

This weekend in the sleety rain we decided to go and take a look. Found a
single Horned Grebe ( a first for me) Numerous Pied-billed Grebes, Red
breasted Mergansers, Tundra Swans, Forsters Terns, A lone Red Head (in a
private pond nearby), Kingfisher, Hooded Mergansers, Great Blue Heron, a Red
shouldered Hawk, and lots of Double crested Cormerants. I guess it pays to
venture out on a sleety day!
It's a little difficult to bird, since the main viewing can only basically
be done from the causeway, but you can pull off to the side on the grass. A
small boat with an electric motor would also be a great way to get into the
reservoir.
The Horned Grebe and others can be seen here. We plan to go back on a sunny
day to see if the Grebe is still there.

Thanks and have a great week
