Hello all
Yesterday after work I went to my property to check out a Yellow -- billed
Cuckoo which on Sunday afternoon was carrying food to a possible nest site .
After hunting around in the area in which the Cuckoo was hanging around Sunday
I was unable to find a nest . I still have time . While I was there I noticed
my nesting Bluebirds flying in & out of a stand of Pine trees . So I decided to
check out the box . The three young Bluebirds that were there on Sunday have
fledged . As I was leaving I checked on the Cooper's Hawk nest. On Sunday we
saw at least two chicks but we were undecided if there was a third chick . Well
they were a bit more active & I saw three. These chicks are starting to get
their wing feathers .
After that I drove to Bells Lane . Not much was going on but here is what I saw.
Green Heron -- 1 -- when I got closer to the Heron a Mourning Dove flew off her
nest -- It had two eggs
Green -- winged Teal -- 1 male
Mallard with at least 15 fuzzy little ones
Red -- winged Blackbird -- many flying to & from nest sites -- plus one feeding
a recently fledged Red -- winged
On this Saturday the 8th I am leading a bird walk in the Swoope area & Augusta
Wetlands . Target birds Bobolink , Grasshopper Sparrow , Vesper , & what ever
nesting birds that we can find . Meet at Big Lots Parking lot at 7 am on West
