Hello all
This morning Pat & I birded the western end of Augusta County . First stop was
Shenandoah Mt. nice views of Highland County but no birds were seen or heard
.From there we came down the Mt. to an area of the National Forest where
Elkhorn Lake & the Staunton Dam are located . In this area we hit a couple of
good pockets of migrating song birds with the majority at the Staunton Dam .
Below is a list of birds seen .
Bald Eagle -- 1 ( adult )
Ruffed Grouse -- 1
Common Nighthawk -- 47 odd to see so many flying around the Dam at 11 : 30 !
Ruby -- throated Hummingbird -- 3
E . Wood Pewee -- 3
Least Flycatcher -- 1 ( sang )
Great Crested -- 2
Yellow -- throated Vireo -- 3
Blue -- headed Vireo -- 7
Red -- eyed Vireo -- 25 +
Blue -- Gray Gnatcatcher -- 5
Chestnut -- sided Warbler -- 9
Black -- throated Green -- 5
Blackburnian --- 4
Pine -- 9
Blackpoll -- 1
Black & White -- 9
Worm -- eating -- 3
Hooded -- 2
Canada -- 1
Scarlet Tanager -- 2
Yesterday Sept . 1 we went out & found a few birds at Quillins in Lyndhurst .
Bobolink -- 150 +
Common Grackle -- 300 +
Indigo Bunting -- 13 +
