Hello all
This morning three "die hard birders" from the Augusta Bird Club joined Pat & I
on a very foggy birding tour of Rt. 610 at Afton Mountain to look for Warblers
& other migrants . With the heavy drizzling rain & foggy conditions we decided
to head off of the mountain & bird the low lands where it was clear . So off we
went to find Warblers at Sherando Lake . After getting out of the fog bank & on
the way we stopped just past the Wildlife Center where there is a foot trail .
Here we picked up the usual Titmouse & Chickadee's But just across the road
from the Wildlife Center we got at least 5 Wild Turkey. After that we went to
Quillen's Pond where we got Great Blue & Green Heron , Mallard & Blue -- winged
Teal , Killdeer , Spotted Sandpiper , Kingfisher,& two Nighthawks plus the
usual year round birds . After leaving there & on our way to Sherando we saw
two Pied -- billed Grebe's in a small pond where a subdivision is going up . We
finished up at Sherando & the mountain was clearing up so we headed back to Rt.
610 to bird . We ended our day with a total of 45 species . Not bad for a foggy
morning . Below is a list of what we saw .
