[va-bird] Birding Hike - Buchanan County

VA Birders,
Nine members  of the Buchanan Co. Bird Club birded an eastern section of 
Buchanan County on Sunday, May 21st. After a stop at a Beaver Pond the group 
moved on to an abandoned railroad along the Dismal River near Whitewood, VA. 
Those hiking were Don Carrier, Ed & Barbara Caudill, Richard Kretz, Roger 
Mayhorn, Ed Talbott II & Mary Talbott, Ed Talbott III & Michelle Talbott.

Warblers found were Black-and-whites 3, Blue-winged 1, Common Yellowthroat 3, 
Hooded 4, Louisiana Waterthrush 1, Northern Parula 1, Ovenbird 3, Yellow 
Warbler 5.
Vireos were Red-eyed 8 and Yellow-throated 1.
Hawks observed were Red-tailed 3, Red-shouldered 1.
Swallows found were Barn 1 and Northern Rough-winged 6.
Four woodpecker species were Downy 1, Hairy 1 adult (young could be heard in a 
nest cavity),  Pileated 2, Red-bellied 2.

One Spotted Sandpiper was observed at the Beaver Pond and a Common Raven flew 
over on the railroad hike.
