I was reminded once again this evening of a fairly common sighting at our
feeders. I hope you'll forgive me for reporting sightings that are not avian,
but at least they fly.
In case you've not guessed, our feeders attract Southern Flying Squirrels. We
have woodland, mature Oak and Tulip Poplar, as our back yard and this continues
into woodland owned by Fairfax county. If you have similar habitat near your
feeding station, you might look out a few hours after dark to see if Grey
Squirrels and chipmunks are the only kind of squirrels you're feeding.
