Virginia Birders!
The next regular bird walk at New Quarter Park near Williamsburg is this
Saturday, August 26, 2006 a.m. Bill Williams, Director of Education for
William and Mary's Center for Conservation Biology and member of the board
of the Williamsburg Bird Club, will be our leader. Migration is underway so
we could see almost anything in the varied habitats of the park.
Meet by 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot next to the Park Office for about a 2
hour walk around the park trails.
The Williamsburg Bird Club and New Quarter Park in York County, Virginia
sponsor regular bird walks at New Quarter Park. The most recent walk was
July 22 when Bill Williams and group tallied 33 species. The September bird
walks will be September 9 and 23.
This park is near Williamsburg, the Colonial Parkway, and Interstate 64.
Directions: From Interstate 64: take exit 242A (Route 199 West/Jamestown
Exit.) Take the Route 143 exit off of Route 199 (the first exit), turn
right onto Route 143 and follow it until you come to the first stoplight,
which is the Penniman Road intersection. Turn right onto Penniman Road
(Magruder Elementary School is on the left) and take the first left turn
onto Hubbard Lane. Stay on Hubbard Land for about a mile until you go under
an overpass just past Cobble Creek subdivision. After the overpass, make an
immediate right turn onto Lakeshead Drive. Follow this road until you reach
the park entrance.
