I stopped at all 3 entrances to Beaverdam Reservoir this morning (11/25). The
weather was great for a couple of hours and then went downhill pretty quickly.
The biggest surprise was seeing 4 River Otters up close. The charred carcass of
a Honda Civic at the Reservoir Road entrance was also a new sighting for me.
Here are the avian highlights:
Tundra Swans - 30 flyover
Bufflehead - a handful of males
Pied-billed Grebe
Mallards and Black Ducks - a couple dozen hanging out together
Double-crested Cormorant (imm.)
Ring-billed Gulls - 200
Lesser Scaup
Ravens - 2 flyover
Red-shouldered Hawks - 2
Red-tailed Hawk
Sharp-shinned Hawk - imm. perched with wings and tail spread to air-dry himself
There was also a flock of other ducks that were flying around far away but
never splashed down. My best guess is they were Ring-necked Ducks.
