I visited Beaver Creek Reservoir (western Albemarle
County) this morning (Thursday, 19 April) to see if
the breeding plumage COMMON LOON recently reported by
Jenny Gaden was still present. The reservoir was
actually a bit busier today: there were 3 COMMON LOONS
on the water, an apparent group. Two of these loons
were in breeding plumage; one was in non-breeding
plumage.
There was also a breeding-plumaged BONAPARTE'S GULL
resting on the water, occasionally preening.
I only had a few minutes to spare, but a couple of
RING-BILLED GULLS flew over, as did a GREAT BLUE
HERON; and a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was singing by the
dam.
