Bath Towel Birding, a phrase Myriam Moore coined many years ago. She never
let a rainy day stop her from going birdwatching, knowing that rainy days can
be very productive. She always encouraged others to go birding in the rain, and
she always took a few towels with her. This morning, with that in mind, I
grabbed a towel and headed out into the pouring rain. First stop was Murray's
Pond. The pond was alive with Tree Swallows, probably close to a hundred of
them coursing back and forth low over the water. I tried my best to find my
first
of the season Rough-winged Swallow in the group, but no luck. Nothing else
new except a Coot. Many of the ducks previously reported are still there.
Next
stop Carvins Cove. Not much there, another Coot, three of the previously
reported Horned Grebes and a Pied-billed Grebe that's been there for several
days.
Last stop, Greenfield, and four more Coots. A Greater Yellowlegs and a
Rusty Blackbird were the only new migrants seen. There are still several ducks
there that have been reported earlier. It was an enjoyable morning except for
my screeching windshield wipers. I did get wet... but I had my bath towel.
