Hello all
Today Jo King , Marietta Beverage , Pat & I took a little trip over to Lake
Moomaw in Bath County to see what types of waterfowl were around this time of
the year . After we had finished with Lake Moomaw Jo & Marietta headed back
for Augusta County while Pat & I headed north on 220 into Highland County .
With both Counties we ended the day with a total of 60 species .Not bad for a
perfect warm day of lazy birding & not really trying . Below is a list of what
was seen . All of the waterfowl was seen at Lake Moomaw .
Common Loon --- 10
Pied billed Grebe --- 7+
Horned Grebe -- 1
D C Cormorant --- 1 Imm.
Great Blue Heron -- 2
Black & Turkey Vulture
Canada Goose --- 150+
Gadwall -- 30 +
Black Duck -- 30+
Mallard -- 45+
Green winged Teal -- 7+
Ring necked Duck -- 25 +
Lesser Scaup --- 15+
Bufflehead --- 6
Hooded Merganser -- 10+
Ruddy Duck --- 80+
Bald Eagle -- 1 Highland County on Rt. 644 being dived bombed by 7 Raven's
Cooper's Hawk -- 1 in Bath County going to Moomaw
Golden Eagle -- 1 on Rt. 644 just minutes after watching adult Bald Eagle
Am . Kestrel -- 1 in Bath County
Merlin -- 1 in Highland County sitting on phone wires on Rt. 637
Ruffed Grouse -- 1 Bath County
Am. Coot -- 350 to 400 + Lake Moomaw
Killdeer -- 1 Bath County
Bonaparte's Gull -- 8 first time that I have seen this Gull species at Moomaw

Mourning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red bellied Woodpecker
Yellow bellied Sapsucker
Downy
No. Flicker
Pileated
Blue Jay
Am . Crow
Common Raven -- 6 in Bath County & 13 in Highland
Horned Lark -- at least 1 fly over in Bath County

White breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Both Kinglet's
Eastern Bluebird
Mockingbird
Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Chipping Sparrow
Vesper Sparrow -- 3 on Rt. 637 in Highland
Song
White throated
Junco
Cardinal
Red winged Blackbird
Meadowlark
Grackle -- a small flock flew by us -- one of these Grackle's had a pure white
head , black body . Only if the head could of been yellow .
