VA Birders, just an update for those who requested one: As of 3:45 to 4:00 PM
today (Tuesday, 02/19), "Barnacle Bill" was feeding serenely with a flock of
about 45 Canada geese, on the grassy apron along Eisenhower Avenue, near the
waterslide and miniature golf course.
The geese were close enough not to require a scope, although good close-ups
were enhanced by binoculars. I returned to my car to get the camera (not
being optimistic enough to carry it the first trip), and approached very
cautiously and circuitously close enough to take a few pictures. The flock
remained undisturbed and were still feeding when I left.
I had stopped on the drive to Cameron Run Regional Park to check out the ball
field at Quaker Lane and Rt. 236, and the pond at Ben Brenman Park, so was
counting on the late-afternoon stop near the regional park - and was not
disappointed.
