Birders,
Fifteen hardy souls paid no attention to ominous weather forecasts and ventured
out for the NVBC Banshee Reeks walk on Saturday. We were treated to sightings
of 7 woodpecker species and 7 sparrow species. We had a great time studying a
group of Fox Sparrows, foraging in leaves on the ground and oblivious to us.
Red-headed Woodpeckers put on a stunning show on the bare gray tree trunks near
the beaver dam. A small group visited the Dulles Wetlansds after the walk and
found an amazing (at least, we thought so!) number of 40 Common Snipe feeding
in the mud. The lists follow:
