[va-bird] Bald Eagle

John and I were traveling south on the George Washington Parkway this noon when
we passed the south end of Dyke Marsh, I saw a bald eagle putting a stick onto
a nest on an island in the bay. I asked John to turn around so that I could be
sure that it was a bald eagle with a nest. YES, it was. I think this is
wonderful and we can watch it so easily as it is maybe 100 yards or less from
the bike path. Lets hope that all goes well and we can watch young this year.
I have missed the eagles at Riverside Park.

Directions. From Alexandria - South on George Washington Parkway to just south
of Dyke Marsh, there is a bay where the water comes close to the bike path,
parking on the west side. If you see Morningside Lane you have gone too far
and should make a U-turn. I don't know if the bay has a name, but maybe Eagle
Bay from now on. The osprey nest on the snag is on the right side of the bay.
