VA-Birders,
earlier this afternoon I found a juvie Bairds
Sandpiper at the edge of Swan Cove Pool not far from
the visitor center along Beach Rd.
A few minutes ago I observed what I believe to be a
juv White-faced Ibis at Snow Goose Pool along the
wildlife loop. the bird was foraging with many Glossys
near the start of the Black Duck trail. In the sun I
could clearly make out a bright red eye, comparing
well with the juvie Glossys dark eyes nearby. I also
noticed that the sheen of the mantle feathers was
quite coppery - even yellowish, compared to the darker
coloring of the others. I know juvie Ibis can be hard
to tell apart, but this seemed quite obvious.
there was also a juv White Ibis about 30 feet away. If
I am correct, all 3 Ibises are at Chincoteague. More
later.
