Birders,
Back Bay Birding Club visited the refuge at Back Bay today. Ivan's rains
stayed away but his wind was persistent. We able to view a nice variety of
birds. The highlights were:American Bittern on the pond on the Bay Trail, Wood
Duck (4 flying over the parking lot), Bald Eagle seen across the bay from the
end of the Bay Trail, Northern Harrrier over C pool, Black-bellied Plover
flying
over parking lot, Marbled Godwit flying over C pool, Yellow Warblers (2)
seen on Bay Trail and a young Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the Bay Trail as well
as
the East Dike. Yesterday while the weather was a little nicer I saw 3 Yellow
Warblers, a Redstart, lots of Common Yellowthroats, what I believe was a
Chat, a Magnolia Warbler, an American Bittern and 2 Merlins all on the Bay
Trail. Glossy Ibis flew over the parking lot. I didn't go down the East Dike on
the 17th as the dark clouds were closing in on me without a raincoat.
